Goalscorer Phil Trainer was delighted with yesterday's win over Crawley. Phil's sweetly hit shot a minute into the second half divided the two teams, but he was typically modest about his matchwinner:

"It sat up quite nicely and I hit it sweetly enough. I had another chance after that in a similar position and tried to bend it across the keeper. I might have been better off smashing it as well!"

How much had the goal shy run of 600 minutes without a goal played on the team's minds?

"I think it builds up and is always at the back of everyone's minds. But all you can do is keep doing the right things, concentrate on your job, and get over it."

After beating Crawley Phil now believes The U's can go on a good run in the league:

'It was a good win, important that we picked up three points, and now hopefully we can get a little run going. We knew it was a massive game for us but we showed a bit of character and now hopefully we can kick on from there. The crowd were great. It really was like having a twelfth man out there and really did help. If we can win most of the home games and pick up points here and there away from home then who knows where we can end up."

The goal coincided with Phil's return to the side. Virtually ever present until then, he believes the break has done him good:

"I had a rest and missed the Aldershot game and that might have helped. The gaffer said he thought I needed a rest and to miss a game, and to be fair to him it paid off. I hadn't felt tired but perhaps that's just me wanting to play in every game. It was just common sense, and the gaffer obviously got it right."
