Darren Patterson's capture of Colchester striker Jamie Guy has given the U's serious firepower for the season ahead, and the United boss has been telling Yellow World how excited he is to have Guy, new signing James Constable and top-scorer Yemi Odubade competing for the striking positions. He said:

"Jamie and James both have qualities that will count in this league, will hurt the opposition and score us goals. They have a lot of fine attributes. Add to that how Yemi finished last season and has started pre-season this time and you have three very athletic, very quick and very powerful strikers."

Training was up another notch today as the whole squad geared up foer the new season, somethign Darren can't wait to come around:

"It's strange how signings up the ante for everybody. All of a sudden there is more competition. Ideally we'd have liked it done earlier but we had to wait. Most league clubs came back a week later than Blue Square teams,, and we were back a week before that even. We are pleased to finally have them in and now we just have to keep everybody fit, build the team ethic and start the season well."
