Oxford Scholars
The Oxford United Football & Education Academy is on the look out for new scholars for next season, and in particular for any girls interested in furthering their football as well as their education
The Football & Education Academy offers a full time programme of football and education for Boy and Girls aged 16-19, to start in August 2008 and as part of the F.A Development plan is fully endorsed by the FA.
It has already proved very successful, but there are still places available, with plenty of opportunities for girls looking to get involved
There are places available to candidates on 1, 2 or 3 year programmes and both boys and girls will train on a daily basis and play in weekly fixtures.
Boys - Youth Conference league
Girls - English Colleges League
There will be access to both the BTEC First (level 2) and the BTEC National Diploma (Level 3).
Players will have the opportunity to progress through their:
-Level 1, 2 and 3 football coaching awards
-Level 1 and 2 match officials
-FA treatment of injuries
-First aid certificate
-CSLA (Community sports leaders award)
-HSLA (Higher sports leaders award)
Players will have the opportunity to re-sit English and Maths GCSE (Required for University entry)
The players access structured training sessions every day from one of two qualified coaches.
Overseas players will have the opportunity to study English language.
Each player receives regular 1-1 coaching, squad mentoring on professionalism, mental strength, football fitness, diet and nutrition, match analysis and career development.
The squad will represent the Oxford United Football Academy every Wednesday in the Football Conference, College League and County Cups.
Players will have the opportunity to participate in a football tour in the summer of 2009.
The course offers players links and scholarship opportunities with clubs in the USA. Educational links are also in place for students to access higher education courses at a number of UK universities including Manchester Metropolitan, Worcester and Oxford Brookes.
Players will be given the opportunity of employment once qualified working for Oxford United Football in the Community scheme during holiday times.
The programme is the result of a partnership between Oxford United Football Club and The Oxford Academy. The Football Academy is the only one linked to a fully professional club in Oxfordshire.
