After progressing through the youth set up at Aston Villa Michael spent two seasons at Wrexham before drifting out of the Football League to play for Stevenage, Halesowen and Telford before joining Lincoln City in 2004. He then joined Kidderminster in 2005 and was a regular in their side either at his preferred position as a left winger or at left back until joining United on loan in January.
